Josoor Institute gathers sports and events professionals to deliver key insights

Hundreds of sports and event management professionals from across the region attended the second edition of Josoor Hiwar – a series delivered by Josoor Institute, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ education and training programme launched by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).
The three-day online series featured expert insight from sports and events professionals in Qatar and around the world. A host of key topics were covered, including industry trends, the impact of COVID-19, sports diplomacy and future skills. The event also included a careers section for Josoor Institute alumni and delegates.
Launched in 2013, Josoor Institute offers education and training to sports and events industry professionals in order to leverage Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup. It has helped thousands of professionals develop new skills and further their careers over the past eight years.

Famous local participants included composer Dana Al Fardan and entrepreneur Ghanim Al Sulaiti. Other contributors included Margareta Drzeniek-Hanouz, from Horizon Group, Nicolas Jutigny, of Publicis Live, Matt Crisp, from beIN SPORTS, George Prior, from AC Milan, Sara Eddleston, from YouGov Sport, Ahmed Abbassi, from the Qatar Stars League, Natacha Schauenburg, from Infront Sports & Media AG, and Robert Wispelweij, from FIFA.
Key contributors from the academic community were Professor Daniel Kelly, from Tisch Insitutute for Global Sports at New York University, Professor Elisabetta Trinchero, of SDA Bocconi School of Management, and Professor Simon Rofe, from SOAS University of London. A host of SC employees also took part, including Afrodite Moschoudi, Aisha Al Kuwari, Talar Sahsuvaroglu, Samantha Sifah, Mark Dyer, Caspar Morley, Gordon Penney and Bashir Mirza, along with Mo Mohammadi from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC.
Day one of the conference gave delegates an overview of the current economic implications of COVID-19, along with looking at trends already in place before the pandemic. Day two focused on key developments in the run-up to Qatar 2022, including accommodation, safety and security, inclusivity and accessibility. A session on sports diplomacy was also held. Day three included information about future skills for the evolving job market and career planning in collaboration with Global Sports.
The dedicated careers section of the event allowed delegates and alumni to use virtual booths to meet with representatives from a host of organisations, including the Qatar Stars League, Aspire Academy, QR Sports, beIN SPORTS, Paris Saint-Germain, KAS Eupen, Save the Dream, UCFB and Buzztech. The meetings allowed delegates and alumni to find out what skills and expertise these organisations are looking for.
